We are facing the same challenge globally: how do we keep our growing cities livable, sustainable and economically flourishing for everyone? And how do we achieve that as formal and informal residents, businesses, governments and investors together?
On Tuesday, October 8, SDI invites mayors and politicians in The Hague to sit down with slum dwellers to exchange experiences and solutions. This event offers an excellent opportunity to talk to those who face the consequences of climate change, poverty and exclusion on a daily basis, and who are finding innovative solutions to these problems on a daily basis, too. Slum dwellers may be poor, but they are rich in mind.
Over the past 25 years, SDI has gained in-depth knowledge about the dynamics of urban development. The slum dwellers have become experts in solving land and tenure challenges and finding inclusive solutions when formal interests overlap with the needs and rights of informal communities. All this knowledge and experience is invaluable if we want to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
